Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society

Archives

Tarpon Springs, Florida has an interesting and culturally rich past that helps to draw thousands of visitors each year. The Tarpon Springs Historic Train Depot has been around for over 100 years. While it is no longer a train station, it now serves as a museum operated by the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society, Inc. We welcome you to stop in to see all of the historical exhibits and enjoy a guided tour or browse on your own.  We feature a fun History Hunt for kids or those who are still kids at heart!  There is no fee to visit our museum but donations are always appreciated!  We are open Wednesday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Archives Rules and Regulations

Permission to Examine:

Permission to examine material will be granted to qualified researchers upon completion of the application form and agreement to abide by the rules governing the use of manuscripts, documents, and photographs. Such permissions are subject to restrictions placed on the material by museum staff, donors, or depositors. Due to time and staff limitations, we cannot conduct major research, but we will assist where possible and suggest alternative sources of information. All material will be handled and photocopied by archival staff or volunteers, who will remain present while the researcher examines the materials.

Protection of the Material:

Researchers are responsible for safeguarding any material provided in the Archives. Coats, briefcases, parcels, and personal books are not allowed in the research area and must be left in the office. Only pencils may be used in the research area—no ink of any kind is permitted. Smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited in the archives. Archival material must be handled with care: only one folder at a time, maintaining the existing order of papers. Do not place books face down or lean on the materials. Access to restricted materials requires written permission from the relevant authority.

Permission to Publish:

Permission to examine materials does not authorize their publication. A separate written application must be submitted to the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society for permission to publish. Researchers planning to publish their work should inquire about publication restrictions beforehand. If granted, the source of the material must be cited as follows: By permission of the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society, Tarpon Springs, FL. Web publications should include the same citation. Two copies of any published work must be provided to the archive upon release.

Archive Services:

Photocopies are provided to facilitate research and minimize wear on documents and are made exclusively for the personal use of the researcher. All photocopying will be done by staff or volunteers. Photographs cannot be transferred to others or replicated without prior permission from the Society. In some cases, copies may be refused due to the physical condition of the material, special restrictions, copyright laws, or privacy concerns. Staff will not make copies of materials that violate these terms.
